The apparel company that was first started as a yoga studio soon became a technical athletic apparel company that now holds over $45 billion of market cap as of 2022.
Yes, it is Lulumenon! But do their leggings shrink? You must know the answer to this question before you even do something weird while washing your legging.
Let’s see whether lululemon leggings shrink?
In Short, nearly all Lululemon leggings do not shrink, and it is due to the nature of synthetic materials used in the making of leggings body – Nylon and Elastane. Due to the characteristics of Nylon, lululemon leggings are highly stretchable but not shrinkable.
Also, according to lululemon, none of the leggings are preshrunk, but their materials are naturally durable enough to hold the legging’s shape without shrinking.
Practically it is answered by lululemon as If you try the methods of shrinking the legging like putting them in boiling water and tumble dry in the highest setting for a long time. Instead, seeing the shrinkage, the legging may stretch out and lose its shape or, at worst, damage the lulu legging.
Although, if you want the freedom of shrinking lulu leggings, you should opt for Warm Down Joggers and Scuba High Rise Joggers. The Warm Down Jogger’s body is made up of 100% cotton, so by all means, you will see more than 3-6% shrinkage on the first wash in warm water. And Scuba High-Rise Jogger is made up of 73% cotton in the body, making it easy to shrink.
If you put either of them in boiling water and then tumble drying in high heat, it’ll witness more than 10% shrinkage for sure due to two reasons: they’re not preshrunk, and pure cotton tends to shrink its dimensions when exposed to heat.
I highly recommend following all the wash/care instructions given by Lululemon so that your legging will last longer and maintain its shape while running, yoga, and workout.
For women, lululemon offers more than seven collections, including some known ones like Align, Wunder, Base Pace, and swift speed. However, in my research, I found that all Lululemon leggings geared toward women are made of Nylon combined with elastane fibers to provide more stretch. You can assume that lulu leggings are near impractical to shrink due to the risks involved like melting of fibers, getting out of shape, or total damage.
For example, Lulu’s Wunder Train High Rise consists of 77% nylon and 23% Lycra Elastane. Trusting my research, no matter which Lululemon leggings you look at, they will contain over 70% nylon, and the rest is Elastane. Now you know that Nylon needs a very high temperature for its dimensions to contras,t and if you reach that temperature, either the fabric will start to melt or your dryer and washing machine will face damage. Both situations will cause the loss of resources, and it’s not worth that risk.
So IMO, the best bet will be to opt for your regular size, and the stretch of legging will, over time, starts to fit your legs just comfortably.
Do lululemon Align leggings shrink?
Lululemon Align leggings are undoubtedly great yoga leggings that offer countless features like lightweight design, 4-way stretch, soft, invisible pockets, sweat-wicking, breathable, and more. However, cause it is made up of 81% nylon, the lululemon align leggings can not be shrunk under normal conditions.
I know why you’re asking this question, mainly cause the legging becomes baggier in some places. The best way to shrink the lulu’s aligned leggings is to get a blow drier and air out the baggy with the highest heat setting. You may be able to shrink it there, but I don’t recommend doing it as it may further stretch out due to the melting of nylon and elastane fabric.
IMO, you don’t have to worry about shrinking because they are made up of very durable and stretchy materials that tend to stretch and not shrink.
Do lululemon leggings shrink in the dryer?
No lululemon leggings will not shrink in the dryer in normal conditions because the synthetic fibers need a very high temperature for the contraction to happen in their dimensions which an average user will never dare to do. Because primarily, for lululemon leggings, the possibility of shrinkage is much lesser than that of getting stretched out in high heat settings. Lulu offers a very few cotton leggings range that you can try shrinking.
That’s why I don’t advise you to put the lulu leggings in a tumble drier at the highest setting; I would recommend you to do as stated in the care instruction for your leggings because instead of shrinking, your legging will lose their shine and quality for that you brought it in the first place.
How to avoid Lululemon leggings from shrinkage?
You don’t have to avoid lululemon leggings from shrinkage because they will not shrink. The durability of the lulu materials allows the item’s sizing to hold naturally without shrinking.
Nonetheless, you should still follow the wash/care instructions provided so that your legging keep your leggings on for the longest time.
- Wash with like colors
- Machine wash cold
- Tumble dry low
- Do not bleach
- Do not dry clean
- Do not iron
Can lululemon make leggings longer?
If you’re asking this question concerning that the size you’re opting for may not fit great on your waist, hips, thighs, and carbs, then you don’t have to worry because all the leggings that lululemon offers come with high stretch that will adapt to sit on your legs comfortably in 3-4 wear. Still, it will help if you go for the size recommended according to your waist, hips, and inseam length to avoid any future inconvenience.
