Safe to sleep means whether they contain harmful chemicals or not. This certification is only given to those sleeping items which are free from harmful chemicals. 

Shape

In terms of shape sleeping pads fall into two basic shapes: mummy shape that tapers towards the feel to cut the weight (you can easily see that these shapes of sleeping pads are the most lightweight one) and other is the rectangular shape which is more spacious and accommodate highest comfort-seekers and active sleepers.

Weight & Packed size

R-value

If you’re thinking that you don’t have to worry about cold grounds because you have a very thick sleeping pad then sorry to say but you’re absolutely wrong. Even the thickest pad can not save you from the cold ground because your body compresses the insulation along the bottom of the bag, therefore the cold air makes its way up to the surface of the sleeping bag which results in compromising its ability to keep you warm. Thus a good r-value is necessary for keeping you warm in the cold season.

But how much r-value do you actually need? It depends on which season you’re camping or hiking.

The most comfortable sleeping pad you can have is this one. The Megamat 10 has two valves where one valve is only to inflate it and suck air in and another is for deflation only. This sleeping pad is very easy to use; you just have to roll it down and open its inflating valve and it will take 1-2 hours to inflate about 90%. The other 10% you can do with a compact mini pump that comes with it.

The deflation process is also very easy. When you’re done you can either use an air sucker like a vacuum cleaner. A vacuum cleaner can deflate in about 1-2 minutes. But if you’re camping and have no vacuum cleaner then just open its deflation which will help to deflate it faster. Designed for 4 season comfort. Megamat 10 uses Bluesign certified insulation which will keep you toasty in temperatures down to -54 degree F.

The description says that it has a repair kit but I am a bit angry that they’re not honest with their customer so you have to buy one in case a puncture happens. By the way, punctures are very rare with this sleeping pad. These are the only cons which are nothing to the performance and the level of comfort it is providing.

First of all, it is not the highest in comfort and a bit overpriced. So that’s its cons but moving to pros is really interesting. This sleeping pad is made taking backpackers and car campers both in mind. Yes, the bag is a bit heavy and bulky for a backpacker. So a backpacker may need to cut some weight and have free enough space to fit this sleeping pad. But if you’re a strong man who can afford 0.33 lbs then this is a good option. Because of the level of comfort you’ll get in this pad I don’t think you can get in any other backpacking sleeping pad (If I am wrong, please let me know the more comfortable sleeping pad then I will mention that before this).

I like that it comes with an inflate pump bag to make inflation easier and faster and its extra-large deflation valve makes packing quick and painless. With a 5.2 R-value, you will remain toasty in temperatures down to -4 degrees F.
